White goods refer to large household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and ovens. The term originated from their traditional white enamel finish. In the context of the 1980s and early 1990s, these items were often considered indicators of affluence and were purchased for conspicuous consumption. The Government of India de-licensed the white goods industry in 1993 with the objective of boosting domestic production and reducing reliance on imports.
1) Stainless steel and aluminium utensils are kitchenware and do not fall under the category of large household appliances known as white goods.
2) Milk and milk products belong to the food processing sector and are typically classified as Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), not durable household appliances.
4) Soaps, detergents, and other mass consumption goods are consumable items, distinct from the durable household appliances that constitute white goods.
